About

The short version: I help organisations that are growing faster than their systems. Here’s how I approach that work, and a bit about who I am.

Who is Scale Impact

I’m Luke – a fractional Head of Operations and strategic advisor based between Glasgow and London. I work with charities, social enterprises, and purpose-driven businesses that are growing faster than their systems can keep up.

I didn’t start in the charity sector. I trained as an engineer and spent the early part of my career in the commercial water industry. Frustrated at being asked to put business needs above the needs of people and planet, I left to join Engineers Without Borders UK. From there I moved into international development and the social enterprise world, and through the On Purpose programme, a social impact focused MBA, I explored systems thinking and new economic models – how organisations can grow without losing the values that started them. I kept seeing the same pattern: brilliant people, important missions, operations held together with spreadsheets and goodwill. This led me to starting Scale Impact to help mission-driven organisations creating positive change.

What I bring is a combination most operations consultants don’t have: the methodical discipline of an engineering background, the human-centred instincts of someone who’s lived inside the charity and social enterprise world, and a systems-level view of how organisations actually change. I’ve worked with teams of five finding their feet and established charities managing multi-million pound portfolios. I don’t bring a template – I bring the judgement to know which structure will help and which will just get in the way.
